Hand Psoriasis

A 19-year-old male from Mata no Madh visited the Mata no Madh MMU first on the 16th of March with complaints of severe skin itching over both hands below the elbow on the dorsal region of hands. The patient said that he had itching all the time, with a burning sensation and pain after the itching, not associated with sticky watery discharge localised to papules, which was aggravated in winter and by spicy food for the past one and a half years. He visited a dermatologist a year ago and took medicines and ointments but did not go for follow-up as he could not afford the treatment. His vitals were in normal range. He was diagnosed with hand psoriasis and was prescribed the following medication:

  • Terbinafine (as terbinafine hydrochloride) 250 mg oral tablet – 1 Tablet | After food | Once daily

  • Clotrimazole 10 mg/g cutaneous cream – 1 Cream | Twice daily

  • Betamethasone 1 mg/g cutaneous cream – 1 Cream | Twice daily

The patient has been visiting the MMU every week and was provided a tele-consultation with dermatologist who confirmed the prescription. The patient last visited the MMU on 20th April and was very thankful for the regular supply of medication. He informed that his itching had reduced and he was feeling better.

This case is an example of how sustained visits to the MMU has helped a young boy with proper investigation and regular supply of medication for a chronic ailment, which he could not afford.
