Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. (GMDC), an undertaking of Government of Gujarat, is one of India's leading mining and mineral processing PSU companies. As India’s second-largest Lignite producer company, GMDC leads in Lignite exploration and supply in Gujarat. It caters to various high-growth industries, including textiles, chemicals, ceramics, bricks and captive power. GMDC is also involved in the exploration of Bauxite, Fluorspar, Manganese, Silica Sand, Limestone, Bentonite and Ball Clay. GMDC has Lignite based Thermal Portfolio, the 2*125 MW Akrimota Thermal Power Station and Renewable Energy portfolio, fulfilling the energy demand of the nation.

GMDC has embarked on the growth journey, strategically transforming itself into diversified portfolios spread across minerals and power assets. This includes six upcoming Lignite projects, Fluorspar mining project and the expansion of Thermal Power Station in Gujarat. Expanding its presence beyond the geographical boundaries of Gujarat, GMDC has secured bids for Odisha’s Baitarani (West) Block in Chhendipada Tehsil of Angul District and Hemagiri Tehsil of Sundargarh District in the commercial coal auction by the Union Ministry of Coal.

The new expansion will bring GDMC’s diversified products to even more customers and create new job opportunities. About GMDC-GVT

GMDC contributes to its Corporate Social Responsibilities by aiding the development of the areas from where it unearths the mineral wealth. Believing and practicing the culture of accountable governance, GMDC established Gramya Vikas Trust on 7th January 1991 as Public Trust with Section 12A and 80G, registered under The Income Tax Act, 1961 for various developmental activities. GMDC-Gramya Vikas Trust (GMDC-GVT), a CSR implementing body, works with the vision to enhance the quality of life through innovative partnerships/programs, strategic collaborations and stakeholder engagement of communities living in the vicinity of GMDC Project locations.

Assimilating the culture of building good relations with the community, GMDC-GVT constantly strives to address the needs of the communities in and around GMDC’s areas of operations. With the extensive geographical coverage, GMDC-GVT’s functional area spans across total 252 villages in Banaskantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Chhotaudepur, Devbhumi Dwarka, Kachchh, Panchmahal and Surat districts of Gujarat State. In alignment with GMDC’s Growth Strategy of entering into coal portfolio at Odisha, GMDC-GVT is doing the CSR interventions with an outreach in 38 villages of Angul and Sundargarh Districts of Odisha State. Many of these areas are situated in the remotest regions of Gujarat and Odisha.

Over the years, GMDC is working on programs in Education, Healthcare, Drinking Water & Sanitation and Rural Development to improve the quality of life of surrounding communities.

In the year 2022-23, GMDC-GVT, as an implementing body of CSR for GMDC has been given fresh impetus and accordingly, following are the focus areas:
